Carjacking suspect captured in Longview
Victim was waiting for his girlfriend to get off work when he was approached by the suspect with large butcher knife.
On February 4, 2010 at around 12:50 a.m., Longview Officers were dispatched to a robbery that had just occurred at AAON Coil Products at 203 Gum Springs Road.
The victim told officers that he and a friend were sitting in the parking lot in his 1995 Lincoln Town Car waiting for his girlfriend to get off from work, when a man approached them and asked for a ride. The victim told the suspect he could not give him a ride, because he was waiting for someone and the suspect then became agitated and produced a large butcher knife.
Longview Police Pursuit 2-4-10
The suspect threatened the victim with the knife and then opened the passenger side door and entered the vehicle. As the suspect got into the vehicle, both the victim and his passenger got out. The suspect then drove off with the victim’s vehicle and was last seen driving southbound on Gum Springs Road.
As Officer Jason Boothe was driving to the robbery call, he spotted the stolen vehicle at the intersection of South Eastman Road and South Access Road. Officer Boothe attempted to stop the vehicle, but the suspect fled, leading officers on a pursuit that ended in the 5300 Block of West Loop 281 where the suspect lost control and wrecked the stolen car.
The suspect, Israel Huerta, was arrested and charged with aggravated robbery and evading arrest in a motor vehicle. Huerta was booked into the Gregg County Jail. No one was injured during the carjacking or subsequent vehicle crash.
